Lavelle Deshawn Brown, a 34-year-old black man, was shot to death Friday, January 13, 2017 in the 2200 block of Larchmont Street in Pomona, according to coroner’s records. 

About 11 a.m., Pomona police responded to a call about a shooting in the area, Sgt. Brian Hagerty said. The officers saw a sedan in a frontyard, and Brown and Corin Michella Hensley, 25, were inside with multiple gunshot wounds, Hagerty said. 

Brown was pronounced dead at 11:31 a.m.; Hensley died minutes earlier, according to coroner’s records. 

Hagerty said Brown was driving the vehicle near the intersection of Larchmont Street and Collingswood Drive when a dark-colored sedan pulled alongside. A gunman then opened fire, striking Brown and Hensley. As the gunman’s car sped away, Brown’s vehicle accelerated forward then stopped on a front lawn, Hagerty said.
