CAMARILLO, Calif. "My mother and my sister and I were devastated by the murder of my father Mike Grair," said Tracy Grair. "Our father came to this country with nothing. He worked hard for over 40 years to give a better life for us."
Tracy Grair says her family won't find closure until her father's killer or killers are behind bars.
Detectives say October 10, 2008, a family member found 64-year-old Mike Grair's body in his white Cadillac Escalade behind a vacant commercial center he owned, at 4542 Las Posas Road in Camarillo. Detectives say Grair, who lived in Burbank, was shot to death. His SUV was still running when his body was discovered inside.
Investigators say Grair was at the vacant commercial center sometime around 5 that evening to meet a potential client. Detectives say they don't have a clear motive and have no suspects.
The victim's family is offering a $100,000 award for information leading to the arrest and conviction of killer or killers.
"Our family is offering a reward to help find any information to solve this horrible crime," said Tracy Grair. "Somebody knows something or saw something."
"Although the area he was found is difficult to see, Las Posas Road is heavily traveled," said Ventura County Sheriff's Dept. Chief Dennis Carpenter. "Detectives believe that possible witnesses traveling in the area that day between noon and 5 p.m. may have seen suspicious persons in or around the parking lot where the street, where the shooting occurred."
Detectives say Grair was a successful businessman who owned a liquor store and shopping centers in Camarillo and San Clemente. They say even though he was known to travel with large sums of money on him, they can't point to robbery as a clear motive for his murder.
Ventura County Sheriff's detectives say they need your help making an arrest. If you can help they want you to call them at Ventura County Crime Stoppers, at (800) 222-TIPS (222-8477).
