- MARINA RUGGIERO
20 Years of Age Date of Death: 8/25/1991 City of Murder: San Luis Obispo, California San Luis Obispo Police Department Lieutenant John Bledsoe (805) 781-7100 It was supposed to be a fun weekend in San Luis Obispo for Marina Ruggiero around family and close friends. But nearly 28 years later, police are still mystified by her ill-fated visit to SLO. The 20-year-old San Pedro resident was in town Sunday, Aug. 25, 1991, for the wedding of a close family friend. After Ruggiero left the reception alone to return to her nearby motel room, nobody she knew would ever talk to her again. The young woman who, by all accounts, had a fairly normal life, was brutally stabbed to death about 10 p.m. that night. Nearly three decades later, investigators still have many unanswered questions: Who would want to hurt Ruggiero and why? How did the killer approach her? Was the murderer a stranger lurking around the motel? A guest at the wedding? “This is one of the saddest cases I’ve ever seen,” Lt. John Bledsoe, of the SLO Police Department, said last week. “All homicides are sad, but this one is especially sad. She was with her family and close friends. It was supposed to be a happy time.” Marina Ruggiero was murdered in San Luis Obispo in 1991. If you have any information, contact the Lt. John Bledsoe of the San Luis Obispo Police Department at (805) 781-7100.

- ELLIS REED
28 Years of Age Date of Death: 5/9/19 City of Murder: Fullerton, California Fullerton Police Department Detective Garcia (714) 738-6759 FULLERTON (CBSLA) — An online feud may have led to the fatal shooting of a man who was found dead in a Fullerton alley. After several reports of gunshots and the sound of a car peeling away in a Fullerton neighborhood at about 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, officers responding to the calls found a man with several gunshot wounds in the 3000 block of Topaz Lane. He is believed to have been shot on Garnet Lane, about a block away. Giesela Tanner identified the man as her 28-year-old son, Ellis Reed. "My baby is gone. My baby is gone," Tanner cried with tears streaming down her face, as a friend hugged her. Reed was her only child. "My son was the sweetest person you ever want to meet. And he was loved here in the neighborhood. He worked very hard, loved everybody," she said. Tanner said that she told police that she has been looking through her son's social media posts, which indicate he may have been having an online feud with someone. But either way, she is hopeful someone will come forward with information about the shooter. "I do understand that people don't want to give up their name or anything. I understand that. I just want the information," she said. Investigators at the scene interviewed witnesses to get a description of the shooter, and searched the area for any possible security video. Police say the neighborhood has had some gang activity in the past, but it's not clear if the shooting was gang related.
- EDUARDO LIRA
24 Years of Age Date of Death: 8/25/18 City of Murder: Santa Paula, California Santa Paula Police Department Detective Ramzi Raad (805) 525-4474, ext. 211 The victim of Santa Paula's first homicide of 2018 was identified Monday by the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office. Eduardo Lira, 24, of Santa Paula, was found dead of a gunshot wound to his chest late Saturday, minutes after another gunshot victim had been reported in the emergency room of Santa Paula Hospital. Lira's body was found around 11:52 p.m. when the Santa Paula Police Department received a call regarding a person down near the intersection of High and Sycamore streets. Lira, who police said also went by the nickname "Lalo," was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. Less than 20 minutes earlier, at 11:35 p.m., police had been called to Santa Paula Hospital regarding a 24-year-old male shooting victim being treated there. Authorities described his injuries as not life-threatening. Police believe the two 24-year-old victims were together at the time they were shot. The crime took place near the intersection where Lira was found, authorities said late Monday afternoon. The other victim had fled the scene and was taken to the hospital by a private party, according to police. By Sunday afternoon, a makeshift memorial had been set up near Sycamore and High streets with a framed photo collage of Lira, prayer candles and red roses. Numerous people stopped by the corner to visit the site, with several saying they knew the young man in the photographs. A few neighbors said they had heard gunshots or a ruckus during the night, but none had seen anything other than police cars that swarmed into the area and locked it down. The intersection is located generally northeast of downtown Santa Paula, on the east side of Ojai Road, also called Highway 150, in a residential neighborhood with mostly single-family homes. Any suspect or suspects were still at large as of Monday evening, officials said, and the shootings were being actively investigated by department detectives. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Ramzi Raad at 805-525-4474, ext. 211 or to remain anonymous, call Ventura County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
