51 Years of Age Date of Death: 4/1/2014 City of Murder: Long Beach, California Long Beach Police Department Detective Todd Johnson Detective Roger Zottneck (562) 570-7244 Herbert Theodore Shepard, a 51-year-old black man, died Tuesday, April 8, after being shot three days earlier in the 2300 block of Eucalyptus Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. Long Beach police responded to a call of shots fired in the area about 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, and found Shepard and another man with gunshot wounds to the lower body, according to a news release from the Long Beach Police Department. Shepard was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on April 8 at 11:36 a.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman. An autopsy showed that Shepard died of a gunshot wound. LOUIS, Ill. — An East St. Louis couple is searching for closure after their son was shot and killed in East St. Louis in May. Latatia and Paul Stewart are the parents of 31-year-old Gregory Stewart, who was shot and killed while at an acquaintance's house. On the night of May 30, Gregory Stewart was called to the house of an acquaintance of his in the 2400 block of Bond Ave. at – 1408 Bond Street East , where he arrived to a crowd of people. Witnesses said an altercation broke out among the crowd as people left the house. Then someone jumped out of some nearby bushes, fired a shot into the crowd and took off. Stewart, a father of four, suffered a gunshot wound and died. On Saturday, his parents, relatives and friends returned to the scene for a “Gregory Stewart Rally and Memorial.” “We just want to bring attention to our son’s unsolved murder. We are hurt and devastated. My son had four young children,” Latatia Stewart said. After she and her husband first shared their frustrations, concerns and fond memories of their son, the couple and the group then marched around the neighborhood, ending the event with a candlelight vigil and balloon release. East St. Louis Police Chief Kendall Perry rode in his police car and led the group on its march. Perry tells 5 On Your Side’s Robert Townsend there’s still no arrest in connection with Stewart’s death. CrimeStoppers is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who has information that will lead to an arrest and conviction. 19 Years of Age Date of Death: 11/1/2002 City of Murder: Palmdale, California Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau (323) 820-6700 PALMDALE, Calif. - Community members gathered in Palmdale Monday night to remember 19-year-old Jacob Matthew Taylor and demand justice for his killer . A vigil was held Monday at Marie Kerr Park, where Taylor was shot and killed overnight on Halloween. Two other teenagers were shot that night in a drive-by shooting. According to investigators, a group of men and women were in the west parking lot at the park when a fight erupted. The fight broke up, but 10 minutes later police said a pickup truck pulled into the lot and someone inside the truck began shooting at the crowd. All three of the teens were taken to the hospital. Two teen girls are expected to recover, but Taylor was pronounced dead at the hospital. Monday night, family and friends gathered to mourn Taylor's loss. "Oh I'm demanding justice," said Taylor's friend Amya Thompson. "I don't want anyone to give up on him like he was just a nobody. He affected, this impacted the whole Antelope Valley, his death. And all I'm asking for is justice. I'm not asking for retaliation, I just want to see whoever did it behind bars." "He was a good young man," his uncle said. "He was loyal to his friend. He cared deeply about his mother, his father and his younger sister. Everyone who knew him knew he was there for them." Taylor graduated from high school in 2021, and wanted to be a psychologist Authorities are still investigating the shooting. The people who took her forcibly put her in the car. She did not willingly get into the car. Detectives do not know where Apodaca was killed, but said she died between midnight and 3 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 1992. At least two witnesses saw a car leaving the maintenance yard before 3 a.m. Dressed in red shorts, a blue t-shirt and tennis shoes, Apodaca’s body was found about 10:30 a.m. by a Carson city worker. About 12:30 a.m., Adame was hanging out at a friend’s house when the other person went inside to use the restroom, said Los Angeles Police Det. David Cortez. That's when Adame was shot. Witnesses heard a vehicle speeding away, but it’s unclear whether the shooter got out or shot from inside a vehicle. Adame was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Sheriff's Homicide Lt. Larry Lincoln said Adame's three friends tried to drive him to the hospital to save his life, but instead got into a serious traffic collision in Inglewood. All the friends were somewhat hurt, including one young man who broke both legs. Adame later died at a hospital.
